Synchromysticism: The Magdalene Chain
Synchromysticism is defined as ‘the art of realizing meaningful coincidence in the seemingly mundane with mystical or esoteric ‘ Pioneered by the wonderfully strange Jake Kotze, it draws meaning from coincidences scattered across various popular media. The way it works for me is via synchronistic reading (my Library Angel); dreams; repeated words, themes, or images that seem to throw themselves at me over a small period of time from the TV, radio, papers…etc.
It may sound like nonsense at first, but when you start to notice the subtle beauty and nuances, it makes you question the nature of reality and our part in it’s creation….and it’s fun. It’s like putting a cosmic jigsaw together and trying to determine what the overall picture will be when it’s completed. Sometimes the chain of synchronicities only ‘wows’ the Synchronaut himself, other times it resonates with others…but it’s always fascinating.
My cosmic jigsaw this week began when I began to notice the similarities between the portrayal of Mary Magdalene and Pandora in classical art.
Pandora originally had a jar not a box…In this painting by Nicolas Regnier titled Allegory of Vanity (Pandora) we see the familiar symbols associated with Mary Magdalene; the jar, the skull (especially the bare foot on the skull), the red and blue clothes, the covering up of the stomach area, and the pearls…To me this is Mary Magdalene or perhaps the two represent one woman, one energy?
So I took a look at the story of Pandora: Imagine if you will our modern day police looking for the culprit who committed the dastardly crime of unleashing all the evils of world upon us. Imagine a police line-up, where all the suspects are women.

We have amongst them the poor, much maligned Eve and Pandora. Pandora, in the traditional myth, was the first woman and was sent by Zeus to punish Prometheus for stealing fire from the gods. She was told not to open the jar Zeus gave her, but being a woman couldn’t resist, and unleashed all the world’s evils, closing the lid on her jar just in time to stop Hope escaping. Naughty Pandora.
However there is another version of the myth told to us by the Greek poet Theognis. He tells us that the tabloids got the story wrong and that in fact:
the gods sent a jar containing blessings to humans. A “foolish man” (not Pandora) opened the jar, and most of the blessings were lost forever. Only hope remained, “to promise each of us the good things that fled.”
So here we have two women, Pandora and Mary Magdalene, both of whom have been portrayed incorrectly, one as the cause of all the ills of the world and the other as a prostitute and sinner. Both are painted with and associated with jars and as Regnier shows are sometimes painted to resemble one another.
I wondered about the significance of this jar and its possible symbolism…Pandora means ‘all -giving’ and she was given many gifts by the gods and her jar according to one source contained blessings. Mary Magdalene’s jar was said to contain the precious and rare ointment that anointed Jesus – with Christ meaning’ the anointed one’.
The image of another jar kept popping into my head and refused to disappear…the symbol of Aquarius, the water bearer. Traditionally portrayed as a man, but not always

Why do I believe that Aquarius should be represented by a woman and not by a man? Another of my obsessions at the moment – Comet Holmes – serves as a timely reminder that some believe that comets seeded life on Earth with water.
‘Modern biology asserts that all first life originated in the water, in the sea. Even earth remains unproductive without it. The letter “M” is the archaic hieroglyph for water, and it reads “water” in the Hebrew alphabet; and its numerical value is 40, the duration of the great deluge of rain. It is shaped to represent the line of a wave, and it begins all words for “mother.”‘
Who better to be the water bearer then, than a woman? The more I read and let the information sit with me, the more I wondered if the importance of Mary Magdalene lies with her representing the Sacred Feminine, the Lost Goddess and the Age of Aquarius…..and the end of the Piscean Age.
I then found this film Zeitgeist
Part One
Part Two
As I watched this fascinating film, I wasn’t even thinking of Mary Magdalene, then at 1 min 20 seconds into the secound film the narrator talks about Jesus representing the Age of Pisces, which will obviously be followed by the Age of Aquarius…I laughed at the apparent coincidence and confirmation.
So I google Age of Aquarius but keep getting the song Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In from the musical Hair by Fifth Dimension
Then I read my favourite astrologer Jonathan Cainer and chose that day to talk about the “Large Hadron Collider” located beneath the earth in Switzerland which is being switched on very soon. This massive particle accelerator involves 7000 scientists who hope to produce the elusive “Higgs Boson”, often dubbed the God Particle, and get definitive answers about the nature of space and time. Jonathan believes that the scientists will get more answers than they bargained for about our evolution and the fifth dimension
Shortly after, and via an unrelated site I come across psychic quester and author Andrew Collin’s site, where I find he has a new book out called the The Cygnus Mystery. Collins writes,
Some string theories and other quantum ideas about the nature of the universe postulate the existence of more dimensions that the three of space and one of time that are known to make up the universe. A fifth dimension or even seven separate dimensions are thought to exist, although only in a dormant, folded state – the way they emerged following the Big Bang.Quantum scientists and particle physicists have been attempting to confirm the existence of multiple dimensions beyond our own for over 25 years, and the construction of billion-dollar particle accelerators such as the Large Hadron Collider(LHC) in Geneva, will hopefully, when its becomes operational in 2008, enable us to detect echoes of the fifth dimension.
Collins investigates the mysterious Cygnus x-3 star system which appears to be emitting ultra high energy (UHE) gamma-rays of an extreme nature. Bearing that in mind; in the 1920s it was discovered that radiation can cause gene mutations and this left scientists wondering if high energy cosmic might have played a part in evolution. The astronomer Carl Sagan wrote in 1973 that human evolution was the result to incoming cosmic rays from some distant neutron star.
Colllins tells us that testing of ice samples has shown that there have been three periods when cosmic ray flux had increased significantly; the first was 60,000 years ago, the second was approximately 45,000-35,000 years ago and the third peak began about 17,000 years ago. In 2005 Dr. Aden Meinel a formerly of NASA;s JPL announced that high levels of Beryllium 10 ( indicating cosmic rays) found in ice cores were responsible for the sudden changes in human and animal evolution 40- 35,000 years ago. Collins speculates about the source of this cosmic influx
‘My own research into the emergence of primitive societies, with their own unique cosmologies and religion, ha revealed an inordinate interest in one particular constellation – Cygnus, the celestial swan. Indeed, it features as the oldest known artistic representation of a constellation anywhere in the world, for it is seen on the walls of the famous Lascaux cave in southern France, which is known to have first been occupied around 17,000 years ago.Yet more disturbing is the fact that Cygnus X-3 is still out there, its cosmic gun barrel trained on the Earth, ever ready to release a volley of cosmic particles in our direction. It has burst into action three times already this year, yet astronomers are waiting for what they see as the ‘next big bang’, showers of cosmic particles on a level never seen before, and when this happens, who knows, we might well be ready for the next stage in evolution.’
The astrophysicist Fridolin Weber believes that Cygnus X-3 is cosmic particle accelerator…the axiom ‘as above, so below’ springs to mind here…above we have the cosmic particle accelerator and below here one Earth, the one in Switzerland.
So what could this next evolution be? My personal belief is that a new consciousness is about to be ushered in, one that we have only had glimpses of. Perhaps these cosmic rays will unlock the ‘junk’ DNA that forms 80-90% of the human genome and create a new reality…perhaps we will enter the fifth dimension?
Updates:5.12.07
Today Jonathan Cainer provided me with another clue about Aquarius and the Vase that Pandora and Mary Magdalene carry:
And what about Aquarius, the water bearer? Why is that an AIR sign? The official explanation is that the water in the Aquarian’s urn is drawn from the fountain of eternal wisdom. Knowledge, intellect, logical analysis and insight are all, ultimately, qualities symbolised by ‘air’.
This echoes the idea that Pandora’s vase carried Blessings not evil, blessings in the form of wisdom, knowledge and intuition.
In addition astrologer Kathryn Cassidy raises some of the similar questions about the Hadron Collider, and adds upcoming planetary aspects into the mix, in her post titled Astrotheology -The Son/Sun On The Cross.

Fascinating. I’ll be back for more. I think you recommended this a few weeks ago but it got lost in the shuffle.

Wonderful, I was writing about Pan(dora) a few hours ago.. Now I stumble across this article on an unrelated thread.
Be very well

I had my own related synchronicity from looking at your blog. I had recently just decided I wanted a tattoo, I first started of by drawing a sketch of it. I drew a barrel of water tilting over the zodiac symbol of Aquarius with the added beauty of an orchid flower over the barrel. I did a random search for images of Aquarius and I ended up here, my jaw dropped. It is oddly similar to the representation of how I envisioned it, but only better.
Ps. Zeitgeist changed my life

Found this both brilliant and a bit disheartening, I, like you am a lapsed C, have found some aspects of the religion comforting at times when I have needed it most (or others around me).
I have always beleived in a more scientific aproach to humankind, ie evolution, but the moral and spiritual aspects of religion, I hope to keep hold of.
These vids have opened my mind to more
Thanks, will probably dream tonight about some wierd hybred egypian/hindu/christian oversee-er who is doing experiments on earth to test our resolve, or awareness! LOL.
I will be back for more, thanks.
