‘Amaral’s side of the story’: It’s a phrase I am starting to hate and that brings me out in hives.
Mr Amaral’s pathetic pleading to be allowed to put ‘his side of the story’ on the recent Oprah Winfrey show was nothing less than stomach turning.
Mr Amaral has no side. He was employed in a role and then left it. It was his role that had access to the files and confidential information, and that was supposed to conduct the investigation – not the man. He was investigating as an employee of the state, paid for by the state, not as an individual. Therefore he has NO side, more so having left that role.
When my husband leaves his job he will have to hand over all files, computers and any information belonging to the company, because it belongs to the company. It is their intellectual property. But my husband is a professional, Mr Amaral it seems sacrificed any and all professional standing he may have had when he published his account of his failure to find Madeleine. However, he hit a new low this week as people recognised the second anniversary of Madeleiene’s disappearance:

If you were wondering why there was no interview with former Algarve police chief Goncalo Amaral in our recent Madeleine coverage, here’s why. His agent emailed us: “Since he left Policia Judiciaria his main concern is to reveal to the general public the facts (which) occured during the investigation.” Then he wrote: “He will be available, but will charge a fee of 80.000 euros VAT.” Yeah, we wondered if he meant 80 euros, too. We didn’t wonder for long. Nem pensar, Jose!
Now I think we all really clear a$ to why Mr Amaral i$ $o keen to pu$h hi$ $o called ‘$ide of the $tory’, and it ha$ $od all to with Madeleine Mccann.

nasty despicable little man!
hes an absolute parasite who probably had a very easy job in PDL, probably only dealing with minor offences (i.e a tourist losing his designer sunglasses or a pair of flip flops!!)
how can certain “anti mccann” websites justify amarals actions this time?
wonder how much hes made from maddie already?
he said the mccanns were too busy drinking and getting drunk with their friends, well, SO WAS HE!
difference was , the mccanns were on holiday but HE was on duty!!!
from what i have read, he didnt attend on the night maddie disappeared and never once formally interviewed the mccanns.
Regarding amaral and drinking, have a look at empathy7 website who recently interviewed amaral and his wife.
he had to have a can of beer to drink during the interview and theres a picture showing this!!

Do you not think Katie that by acquiring an Agent and demanding such outrageous fees, merely for the privilege of listening to some more of his pernicious ´Lies Within the Truth´, our Señor Amaral could possibly have shot himself in the foot? Would that it were some other, more painful part of his anatomy.

This is by way of a PS . I have just watched a clip from Gonçalo´s documentary on utube and a short clip from Madeleine Was Here and it struck me forcibly just how diametrically opposed in personalities these two people are and why, possibly, Gonçalo is so motivated to destroy Kate. A bit of amateur psychology here on my behalf but I felt the need to express it.
I think many British people would know and recognise Kate´s reserved and slightly nervous demeanour, it is typically an English type. And in her own interviews Kate does herself no favours. She is , without meaning to be, possibly too reserved for the public´s liking. But to Gonçalo I believe that Kate in particular represents everything that undermines and threatens his own self image. And it confuses him. Add to this the fact that she is a Doctor and you have an impossible situation for him to comprehend. Let me explain.
In Spain, as I am sure it is in Portugal, and I have come to learn this since I moved here 8 years ago, a Doctor is approached even today with awesome regard. There is not the easy relaxed air of mutual understanding that exists in the UK between most patients and their GP´s. There is always a distance and a formality. Kate is not only an incomprehensible English woman, she is a Doctor. Here we have a recipe for disaster.
Gonçalo is infuriated by Kate. In his video clip he stands outside the apartment and look across the gardens to the Tapas Bar and says “This is what I found strange about her behaviour. She does not shout to her husband and their friends, no. She runs all the way to the Bar to tell them of their daughter´s disappearance”. In his simple peasant like mind he could only have understood a woman who screamed out loud in a typical Portugese wife´s manner, he cannot understand a woman who prefers not to shout, whose voice is thin and who knew she probably would not have been heard and who no doubt didn´t want to create a drama – drama being the one thing that for a “normal” Portugese woman is the very breath of life.. This he could understand.
And so begins his theoretical journey into the realms of concealment and deception and cover up. They have planned it all….that is what happened. That is his Truth in the Lie. After all the PJ have failed. He has failed. Portugese pride is at stake here. Etc etc etc…….We know all the rest. It is madness of course.
And what I keep on hearing to this day, two years later, is the same kind of controlled venom in everything he says about Kate in particular. He wishes to destroy her, of that I am convinced. He truly believes that SHE has been the cause of HIS own downfall. Something he never could, nor ever will, accept.
How to regard him? The man is in a psychotic frame of mind. Let him become his own executioner. It will happen.

Rosemary, I have always thought that about Amaral. Kate does not behave in the way a typical Portuguese woman would behave.
Amaral does not understand what dignity is…..to be fair though, it’s not surprising really with a wife like his!

Rosemary, that is one of the most thoughtfull and incitefull comments about the case I have read for a long time. If you don’t mind I would like to share it on another forum, giving you credit of course. You have really got to the nub of this man’s character, I applaud you.

Nigel thankyou. I am glad that you agree with my observations. By all means pass them onto others, if it perhaps sheds a little more light on to this man´s warped personality then I am happy. I strongly feel it has gone beyond the borders of a professional case issue and has become much more of a personal issue for Amaral. One of self survival.

Rosemary thanks for your very thoughtful post(s).
This man is hardly willing to admit he’s made mistakes – and if he admits it, he’s blaming the GNR, the Government, the FSS or anybody else. In stead of analyzing what he did wrong, and how he could improve himself, he went on a mission full of vengeance. And Kate is his target. Remember that awful letter his wife alledgedly wrote?
I also think his pride got hurt, the press pretty soon didn’t approach him as The Man In Authority, but as a blundering fool, which he is imo.
Think I’ll get me Anorak now….
