Express Yourself:Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word
A new line in the sand…
Today, in an unprecedented move the Express Group and its four papers, The Daily Express, The Daily Star, and their Sunday versions, have issued a front page apology to the parents of missing Madeleine Mccann for for a series of articles alleging that they killed their daughter and covered up her death.
The Express Group has also payed very substantial ’donation’ to a fund set up to help find Madeleine, thought to be around the half a million pounds figure
“We accept that a number of articles in the newspaper have suggested that the couple caused the death of their missing daughter Madeleine and then covered it up,” the Daily Express said.
“We acknowledge that there is no evidence whatsoever to support this theory and that Kate and Gerry are completely innocent of any involvement in their daughter’s disappearance.”
We should be celebrating that fact that a newspaper group has been forced to admit that their factual, in depth reporting was no different to, or better than, two fishwives gossiping over a fence.
We should be appalled that these journalists spent years training as journalists only to end up repeating gossip from a foreign ‘newspaper’ as fact…
We should question what else reported in the media is also distorted, made up, ignored..etc and for what purpose?

Well, it’s great news. I think the payment is comparatively low and I hope that indicates as I suspect it might that the Express are only too willingly collaborating in exposing the real original sources of the lies they were fed.

I hope they have exposed them Gina…For Madeleine’s sake they need to find the real source of the ‘gossip’ that has convinced many that Madeleine is dead and therefore that there is no need to look for her…

That was a long time coming and it’s good to see there is some justice. I dont think the punishment fits their crime though but the main thing is they have apologised to Kate and Gerry.

While this is extremely great news for Kate and Gerry and justice has now been done. These two news papers printed some harsh accusations against them. But unfortunatley the hate campaign still carries on with the anti McCanners. Virgin Media Home page have set up a board about the payment awarded to the McCann’s. There are some good comments but not all. I hope that Kate and Gerry will receive news that Madeleine has been found well.

I DONT trust the press at all…they all might look rivals but suspect they have strong alliegiance between them…stick together…K/G should have gone for the full amount they wanted, it would have took longer and dragged on but I think the press got off pretty lightly!!
The best is they got full blame fom the express group of their fabricated tales and a very public apology, I still think the real culprits are the portuguese press though

Yes Bruno, I agree. The real culprits in this particular case are in Portugal and there are some serious questions to be asked about their motivation. The Express and Star editors might have lapped it up but at various stages most of the UK news media got mugged by some rubbish coming out of the PT media and/or Levy and Reis. It looks more than shabby to me.
